General FAQ’s

What is PULLL?

PULLL is a fundraising app that allows users to generate funds for cancer research through exercise (cycling, running, or walking). It’s free for anyone with a smartphone and can be downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store.

How do I use PULLL?

Open the app before any indoor or outdoor activity and unlock funds provided by corporate partners to fund cancer research. In addition to the funds you unlock, 100% of dollars raised, by getting your network to BOOST your activity, will be directed to cancer research, too. And, you can sync PULLL with Strava or MapMyFitness to download all your activity right to PULLL. Like we said – it’s easy.

What is PULLL’s goal?

To engage a community of 500,000 advocates raising $50 million annually within 5 years!

How does PULLL work?

Through an activity of their choice like walking, running, or riding, PULLL users can track their activities and 100% of the funds they raise exercising will be donated to life-saving cancer research. Through public fundraising reserves, uses will be able to earn funds using a pre-determined rate based on miles or time from official PULLL sponsors.

Where do the fundraising dollars I’m unlocking come from?

When you use PULLL, you’re unlocking fundraising dollars for public fundraising reserves. Those funds are generously donated by PULLL partners. You can identify what partner’s reserve you’re PULLLing from through the company logo on the Start Activity screen. Don’t forget that friends and family can also BOOST your efforts to generate even more funding for cancer research.

How did Pelotonia come up with the idea to create PULLL?

Pelotonia ride weekend in Columbus, Ohio has been one of the most successful fundraising initiatives of the past decade, raising over $157 million for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. So, the team at Pelotonia wanted to give everyone an opportunity to be a part of this special movement. The best way to connect with anyone in the world is through the devices we carry with us every day – our phones. So we think an app is a great way to build an even bigger community – and that together we can do even more to change the world!

What causes can I raise money for with PULLL?

100% of every dollar raised through PULLL, whether through BOOSTS or sponsored workouts, goes directly to cancer research at OSUCCC.

Why the extra “L”?

There are three “L’s” in PULLL. The third “L” reminds us of the one more we strive to achieve. One more activity, one more BOOST, one more breakthrough, one more cure. By combining a community and a cause with fitness tracking technology, we believe the positive outcomes will ultimately lead to happier, healthier communities nationwide.

What is a BOOST?

A BOOST is a pat on the back, a high-five, a peer-to-peer “microdonation” that rewards a workout, a training ride, or just a walk in the park. These incremental donations made by friends, family or fans after a user’s activity are the secret weapon powering the PULLL community! Every BOOST has the potential to change the world because 100% of every dollar raised through BOOSTS will be donated directly to cancer research.

A user should expect their latest BOOSTs accredited to their next workout.

I would like a tax receipt for BOOSTS I’ve made to PULLL users. Who should I contact?

We commend you for staying on top of your charitable giving receipts! Please email taxreceipts@PULLL.org and we’ll get a receipt sent to you as soon as possible. Please note that we will send aggregate receipts for cumulative BOOSTS of $250 or more in a calendar year.

What is a Private Reserve?

Private reserves are fundraising dollars that are being donated by companies to build stronger teams internally by funding & supporting their employee’s activities in PULLL. If you’re an employee or teammate in a company with a private PULLL reserve, you can expect to be contacted by HR or leadership on how to tap into these sponsored funds.

How is this different than Map My Run / Ride?

PULLL can sync with fitness apps like MapMyFitness, MapMyRun, MapMyRide & Strava. The difference between the two is PULLL unlocks fundraising dollars for cancer research, thanks to our generous PULLL funding partners.

Can PULLL be used to generate funds for my cause?

PULLL, powered by Pelotonia, is a fundraising tool for cancer research at The Ohio State University. It is currently not available to generate funds for other causes.

Technical Troubleshooting

I have an Android device, does my PULLL app have different functionality than iPhone?

At the launch of PULLL, there are some functionality differences between the Android and iPhone versions of PULLL. Essentially, we were told we were crazy to try and build an app for both Android & iOS at the same time (it took Instagram over 2 years to release its first Android version). But that answer wasn’t good enough. So we built 2 different apps instead. While the Apple version is more what users would expect, with the ability to like, follow, friend or view activity through a feed - the Android version is all business. It’s built to launch, track and reward. It’s a lightweight fund unlocking tool that makes tracking easy. Sure, you might be missing some of the social functionality, but if your goal is to join the movement and do it quickly, the Android version is simply the fastest way to do it.

Will the Android and iPhone versions stay different forever?

Nothing lasts forever. We are expecting to hear from our Android users that they want to be able to join their iPhone carrying friends in places like “the Feed”. So we definitely have plans to add more functionality over time to the Android app. So keep an eye out for updates, because we want to make sure we’re giving our community everything it’s asking for. Hang in there!

Can I still get BOOSTs if I’m using the Android App?

Absolutely! We think there are about 10 ways to generate BOOSTs through PULLL – and while all 10 might work on iPhone, at least 9 of those work on Android. Android users can still share their activity to Facebook, Messenger, LinkedIn, Twitter, Slack, Email, Text & Instagram. That’s 9 – and for number 10 – you can always tap “Visit My Page” on your profile screen, hand your phone to a friend, and take a credit card BOOST in seconds! So while you might miss a couple bucks here and there from the feed, we’re willing to bet that there’s an Android user out there that can out fundraise the best iPhone users!

Can I track an activity with Location Services disabled?

When you download and open PULLL, you’ll be prompted to enable location services, both within the PULLL app settings and within your device settings.

If you disable location services in PULLL settings, by toggling ‘Share Activity Location’ in PULLL settings you will still be able to complete outdoor, distance-based activities, but your route map will not be visible to friends or community users.

If you disable location services in PULLL settings and in your device settings, you will not be able to complete outdoor, distance-based activities. You will only be able to complete indoor, time-based activities.

Can I change an activity type after I record an activity?

It is currently not possible to change activity types after an activity has been completed.

Can I edit my activity data?

At this time, it is not possible to edit activities. However, if you’re using a 3rd party app like MapMyFitness or Strava and have it linked to your PULLL account – you usually can make changes or edits in these 3rd party apps before you save your workout and send the data to PULLL.

Can I delete an activity that I saved?

At this time, it is not possible to delete an activity – but we’re working on it!

Can I track activities with my phone in airplane mode?

Yes, you can track activities in airplane mode as long as you have location services enabled for the PULLL app.

Does the PULLL app auto-pause my activities when I stop moving?

No, your activities will continue to record when you stop moving unless you stop the activity. Once stopped you can either choose to ‘Finish’ the activity or ‘Keep Going’. If you’re looking to auto-pause, or for more comprehensive tracking & reporting, we recommend downloading either MapMyFitness or Strava, then linking to your account.

What do I do if I receive a network error?
This error can occur when: a phone is in airplane mode, when no adequate cellular data connection is available, or when no Wi-Fi data connection is available. In some rare occasions, you may show a connection to a cellular or Wi-Fi network, but have issues connecting because the signal is weak or you are connected to a Wi-Fi network that is not sending data to and from the Internet.

When this happens, here are some tips for resolving a bad network connection. First confirm you are having trouble sending and receiving data.

  • One way to do this is to open a browser and try to connect to a website. If you can connect and load a website, that is usually a sign that you have an active connection.
  • If you are not able to load a website, first check to see if your phone is in airplane mode, and if it is, disable airplane mode and try again.
  • If airplane mode is disabled and your phone is not showing a connection, try enabling airplane mode and then disabling it again. This can help your phone establish a new connection to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. In between, you can also check a browser again to see if you have established a connection.
  • Finally, if you cannot connect, you may need to move to an area with better connectivity in order to establish a reliable network connection.
I have tracking in Strava enabled but my activities are not appearing in my PULLL activity feed.

This can occur for multiple reasons. If you are tracking an activity that is marked ‘Private’ in Strava, it will not appear in your Pulll activities because the data is not released by the Strava app. If you are tracking an activity that is marked ‘Public’ in Strava and the activity does not appear in your PULLL activities, you may be tracking a type of activity that is not acknowledged by PULLL. PULLL supports the following activities: biking, running, and walking. If you have checked these items and are still experiencing difficulty, please email Support@PULLL.org

When I track an activity using MapMyRun why don’t I see a map in my activity summary?

At this time map data does not carry over when an activity is tracked in MapMyRun.

I get an error message when I try to log in to my Strava account, what do I do?

It is not possible to connect two PULLL accounts to the same Strava account. If you have more than one account with PULLL – or perhaps created a second account and did not disable Strava prior to doing so – you will not be able to pair your new PULLL account to Strava without first disabling it from the previous account. This can be reversed by logging into your original account and disabling the connection to Strava, before logging out. If you’re still experience difficulty after checking these items, please contact Support@PULLL.org.

Pelotonia Rider Questions

Does the PULLL app auto-pause my activities when I stop moving?

No, your activities will continue to record when you stop moving unless you stop the activity. Once stopped you can either choose to ‘Finish’ the activity or ‘Keep Going’.

What if I am able to connect to a network but unable to log in?

If at any point you are able to send and receive data on your phone, and still have trouble logging in – try closing and reopening the PULLL app and attempting to login again. If this does not resolve your issue, please contact support@PULLL.org.

What is the difference between an indoor activity and outdoor activity?

When you track an indoor activity, the PULLL app will use your time to calculate your impact. When you track an outdoor activity, the PULLL app will use GPS distance tracking to calculate your impact.

How do I get accurate map and distance tracking with GPS?

Sometimes the GPS signal for your phone ‘jumps’ causing your map to reflect inaccurate data. Whenever possible, give your phone and the app time to calibrate outside and make sure that your device has a clear view of the sky, away from buildings, trees, or other obstructions.

Can I track activities using a GPS tracking device other than my phone?

Yes, in addition to tracking activities using the PULLL app for iOS or Android, you can use any GPS device supported by Strava (https://www.strava.com/mobile) or MapMyFitness (https://www.mapmyfitness.com/app/). For example, a PULLL user can track activities using Garmin by connecting their Garmin to either Strava or MapMyFitness and also connecting those apps to PULLL.

I’m a Pelotonia rider or virtual rider. Do my PULLL funds count toward my Pelotonia fundraising commitment?

Yes! Users participating in the Pelotonia Ride in Columbus, Ohio will have the opportunity to earn funds towards their fundraising commitment from BOOSTS and available reserves within PULLL.

Where do I enter my rider ID?

At this time, the PULLL team will manually associate PULLL user accounts to Pelotonia rider IDs through name and email address. But be on the lookout for an app update that will allow you to input your rider ID within PULLL, so we can automatically associate accounts regardless of your name or PULLL and Pelotonia emails matching.

When will I see PULLL funds reflected in my Pelotonia rider profile?

You’ll begin to see your PULLL fundraising reflected in your Pelotonia rider profile by August 31, 2018. After this date, we will reconcile these funds on a monthly basis throughout the rest of 2018.

How will PULLL funds display on my Pelotonia rider Profile?

When you begin to see PULLL funds displayed on your Pelotonia rider profile in late August, they’ll be listed as one aggregate total – so, though we will not be individually listing your BOOST donors or reserve partners, you’ll see an accurate total of funds earned from PULLL that total will update each month.

Can I share funds earned through PULLL with friends or my Peloton who are actively fundraising toward their Pelotonia ride commitment?

Unfortunately there won’t be any fund-sharing allowed among users in PULLL, or from users in PULLL to other Pelotonia riders. Only the Pelotonia rider who personally earned these funds will get credit for them in their account.

What happens to funds that I earn on PULLL after the Pelotonia ride fundraising deadline?

Keep using PULLL all year round – we love it! Any funds earned in PULLL after October 5, 2018 at 11:59pm (ET) will count toward that individual’s 2019 Pelotonia ride, if that individual registers in spring 2019.

Can the funds I earn in PULLL be matched by my company?

Unfortunately, funds earned through PULLL cannot be matched by employers at this time.

I would like a tax receipt for BOOSTS I’ve made to PULLL users. Who should I contact?

Why can’t I see my Pelotonia ride fundraising total within PULLL?

At this time, you are only able to see Pelotonia ride fundraising information on your Pelotonia ride profile page. In the future, we may add this information to PULLL profiles for registered riders.

I plan to attend the Pelotonia Check Celebration in late 2018. Will you be including funds raised through PULLL in the overall number that you publicly report?

Great question – we like the way your mind works! We will be reporting all funds earned in PULLL, as well as BOOSTS, for users who are also registered for the Pelotonia ride during our 2018 Check Celebration event. We will not be including funds earned and BOOSTS made to non-riders during this ride-focused event.

I work for a company that has set aside specific Private Reserve funding for employees. How can I ensure that I am able to unlock these funds through PULLL?
